My Story
Some of my favorite childhood memories are of sitting on the front stoop of my house on warm summer nights, watching fireflies. The neighborhood children would gather on our front lawn at dusk, waiting patiently for that first glimpse of light. We would watch these beautiful creatures dancing in the night sky, lighting up from within. Sometimes we'd try to catch them, fascinated by their glow and wondering where that light came from. It all seemed so magical to me.
Looking back, I cherish those memories. There was something special about those carefree summer nights, when there was nowhere else we needed to be and nothing else we needed to do. We were just there, enjoying the moment.
As I grew older, life naturally became busier. There were responsibilities, relationships, family and a career to build. Along the way, I developed a love for meditation, mindfulness and spirituality. These practices helped me slow down, become more present and reconnect with what mattered to me. They became an important part of my life, and I wanted to carry that sense of presence, compassion and connection into everything I did.
But I began to notice something. The way we try to live at home doesn't always carry over into the workplace. We make time for our well-being, our relationships and our personal growth, yet at work, the focus can shift almost entirely to deadlines, goals and getting things done.
I spent 27 years in the corporate world at JPMorganChase, including leadership roles where I coached teams and worked with colleagues across the organization. And I started to wonder: Why couldn't I bring the same mindfulness and values I practiced in my personal life to work? Why did those parts of who I was have to stay at the door?
That question stayed with me. I began sharing mindfulness with colleagues and bringing meditation into leadership conferences and team-building experiences. I saw an opportunity to bring a little more awareness, compassion and humanity into a place where we spend so much of our lives.
Eventually, those experiences inspired me to write Hippiebanker: Bringing Peace, Love and Spirituality to the Workplace and Firefly Culture: Illuminate Your Workplace by Tuning in to Mindfulness. Through my books, I explored how we can show up more authentically at work and create a culture where people feel seen, valued and connected.
When I retired from my corporate career, I found myself at the beginning of a new chapter. The practices that had shaped my own life and that I had shared with others along the way were no longer something I made room for around my career. I could now make them the focus of my work and turn something that had always been so meaningful to me into my purpose.
Today, I bring together guided meditation, crystal bowl sound experiences, reflection and connection through community classes, private sessions, workshops and corporate experiences. Each offers a chance to step away from the demands of everyday life, ease stress and make a little room for yourself.
For me, meditation has never been just about closing my eyes, breathing and feeling peaceful for an hour. It's about getting still enough to notice what's happening within me and having the courage to keep learning from what I find. Life is messy. We're all still figuring things out, and I don't have all the answers either. I'm still learning and growing, just like everyone else. I believe some of our most meaningful growth happens when we're willing to look inward, stay curious and remain open to change.
I still think about those summer nights and the fireflies that fascinated me as a child. All these years later, they continue to inspire my work and remind me that we don't have to become someone else to shine. Sometimes we just need to slow down long enough to remember that the light we've been searching for has been there all along.
My goal is simple: to help you get still and reconnect with presence, purpose and the light within.
